Cloud Computing in Libraries

So, what is cloud computing in libraries? According to Marshall Breeding in a report for ALA Techsource, cloud computing is outsourcing the creation of library software and "Libraries require specialized technology products created by organizations with a deep understanding of their operational workflows and the services offered to their users." The report further discusses advantages and disadvantages of working side by side with the volatile and ever evolving tech industry.
To deepen my understanding of cloud computing services in libraries and what uses were being utilized, I sought out some Youtube videos and found one from Library Facts called "Use of Cloud Computing in Libraries" To sum up, cloud computing has revolutionized various industries to include the non-profit sectors like libraries.

Practicalities for the library are: digital storage, online cataloging, library services and management, collaboration and sharing, virtual reference services, data analytics and reporting.
In my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons, and while data breaches are always at the forefront, especially in libraries who uphold protecting patron privacy, they are few and far between. Libraries should make strong and credible choices when selecting providers who will create cloud services to ensure their patrons and the institution itself are safe and secure.
