The Demise of School Libraries-

 The Demise of School Libraries

While reading up on the NEPC website I found lots of reasons why we have seen a downfall in school libraries. The article written by Nancy Bailey touches on how some libraries can’t function properly due to the lack of librarian support. The article writes, “ Among 125 campuses, 58 percent lack their own full-time libraries with staff. Only 52 schools have one.”(Bailey,2022). The lack of librarians makes it difficult to continue even considering keeping libraries open if there is no full time qualified staff. On the other hand we also have administrators letting go of qualified librarians due to the lack of funding. The article continues to mention schools in poorer districts have decided to cut funding in their own libraries in order to make ends meet (Bailey,2022). School districts are then faced with funding issues that cause them to let go of qualified staff due to budget cuts. These issues are a result of administrations not prioritizing libraries as a whole.
